Cliven D. Bundy of Las Vegas, Nevada may call himself a cattle rancher and family man.  Bundy is a member of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints.  The Mormon father does, after all have 14 children and 60 grandchildren!  Oddly, there is no mention of his wife in any of the public files about Bundy.

Early Life of Cliven Bundy

Cliven Bundy was involved in what started as a 20- year legal dispute with the Bureau of Land Management and ended as an armed standoff with the government.
Clive Bundy supports the “Sovereign Citizen Movement.”  This movement does not recognize the federal government as legitimate.  He believes that the government has no authority over his body or the lands of Nevada.  Therefore, Bundy decided to let his cattle illegally graze and roam on state-owned lands in Nevada.

Cliven Bundy Career

For years, Bundy and his followers (of which there are many) refused to abide by a Federal order to stop using the state land for his cattle ranching.   When the court tried to enforce this order, Bundy then claimed that the court had no more jurisdiction than the federal government did.

In 2014, the federal troops decided to move in on Bundy and his men to enforce the court order.  Bundy and his supporters resisted claiming the rights of the “Sovereign Citizen Movement.”  The only authority Bundy did recognize was the local Sheriff (since he was not an agent of the federal government.)  Bundy ordered his local sheriff to not only order the federal troops off of his land, but to seize the federal officers’ weapons and deliver them to him!

Cliven Bundy Family

Bundy was taken into custody and charged with a 32 page-long complaint.  He continues to earn money from his cattle sales and from his supporters.
What was the government protecting the land from you may ask?  Believe it or not, they had marked the lands near Bundy Ranch as a protected area for the endangered desert tortoise.  Bundy claims that the tortoise and his cattle had lived together just fine for decades.  He believes that the government just wants his land.  Whether this is true or not, if he continues to refuse to honor the federal court order, his troubles are not going to go away.
Before he was able to garner much sympathy from mainstream American, Bundy decided to proclaim himself a racist, stating that black people were better “as slaves, picking cotton.”  In fact, many of his supporters are White Supremacists.

Achievements and Awards of Cliven Bundy

In 2017, due to procedural issues, the lawsuit and case against Bundy was dismissed with prejudice.  The judge declared that due to gross Due Process violations committed by the prosecutors, Bundy and his sons could not be re-charged regarding the Bundy standoff.
