Early Life of Tyga

On the 19th of November 1989, in California, Micheal Ray Stevenson aka Tyga was born in Compton. Before moving to Gardena he was raised there until he was about 11 or 12 years old. Growing up listening to Eminem, Lil Wayne among other, he is of Jamaican and Vietnamese descent. A debate surfaced concerning his upbringing on the 3rd of December 2012. Leaked footage from an unaired TV show which showed that he had in fact grown up in a "well-to-do" home where Tyga's parents were driving a Range rover and this put into light his claim of having been brought up in a low socio economic area of Compton. He was quick to respond to the leak on twitter in his own way. On another TV show he also claimed that he got his nickname from his mother who had been calling him Tiger Woods, however, there were a lot of speculation that his claims were sarcastic and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Tyga's first independent album was released the 10th of June 2008 on Decaydance Records under the title No Introduction. The song "Diamond Life" from his album was used in Need for Speed: Undercover, in the movie "Fighting" of 2009 as well as Madden NFL 2009. Getting him enough attention so as to sign a record deal with Young Money Entertainment was "Young on Probation" which was also his debut mix tape in 2007.
His second studio album was Careless World: Rise of the Last King. On February 21, 2012, the album was released on Young Money Entertainment, Universal Republic Records as well as Cash Money Records. Although still relating to the kids, Tyga stated that the album shows that he had grown up. In preparation for the album, he also released a new mix tape known as "#BitchImTheShit".
He also released a lot of albums in the following years. On October 21, 2014, he stated that his music was being held hostage by his record label Young Money Entertainment and lashed out by also claiming he was considering leaking the album since they would not allow him to release the latter. Due to him not being on good terms with the label Cash Money Records, he released The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty independently. The latter available on Apple Music, was initially exclusively on Spotify.


Under the aegis of Def Jam Recordings, Kanye West announced that he had signed Tyga to his GOOD Music imprint on the 7th of September 2016. Being the sequel to Tyga's 2011 mix tape "#BitchImTheShit", "BitchImTheShit2" was released by him on July 21, 2017.
